Agenda for Site Assessment Fieldwork for
ESA-Listed Amphibians – California Red-legged Frog Study (Study 7.3)
REVISED AGENDA

Due to forecasted freezing temperatures and inclement weather, YCWA is postponing the CRLF Site Assessments on March 1st.  Site assessments will commence on March 2nd.   Interested and available Relicensing Participants may observe the CRLF site assessments on the following agenda.

Friday, March 2: One site in the vicinity of Little Oregon Creek on USFS land and nearby sites on USFS land and private property in the Dobbins Creek area and Lake Francis area southwest of New Bullards Bar Reservoir.
Saturday March 3: Sites on State of California land and private property  in the vicinity of Narrows #2 road and Englebright Dam.
Sunday March 4: Sites on private property in the Vicinity of French Corral, North San Juan, Celestial Valley and near Ridge Road.
Monday March 5: Sites on USFS land and private property near Lake Francis Area southwest of New Bullards Bar Reservoir and New Colgate Powerhouse; sites on USFS land and private property near Marysville Road and north/northwest of Camptonville Diversion Tunnel.
Tuesday March 6: Sites on USFS land and private property northwest of River Mile 10 of New Bullards Bar Reservoir.

Each day meet at Holiday Inn Express (HIE; 121 Bank Street, Grass Valley, CA 95945) at 7:00 AM.  Review assessment sites that will be visited, and discuss field safety for the day.  Fieldwork will mainly occur at road crossings; however, fieldwork may require traversing through dense brush, including Himalayan blackberry and poison oak, and wading in streams.  Site Assessment locations will be mapped and characterized in accordance with Revised Guidance on Site Assessments and Field Surveys for the California Red-legged Frog (USFWS 2005).   Each participant is responsible for bringing appropriate field gear for the site visit, including hiking boots and hip/chest waders.

General Reminders:

1.  Please bring adequate food and water for a full day of fieldwork. Once we leave HIE, we will not be near stores where groceries can be purchased.

2.  Please dress appropriately for the weather.

3.  A high-clearance 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended for some roads in the fieldwork area.

4.  Decontamination of boots, waders, and other equipment with Quat will be implemented between study sites.  Major concerns are amphibian chytrid fungus, and invasive invertebrates (e.g. zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha).  This is of primary importance when moving: 1) between tributaries and mainstem reaches; 2) moving between basins (e.g. Middle Yuba River, Yuba River, and North Yuba River); and 3) moving between isolated wetlands or ponds and river or stream environments.

Please contact Lisa Danielski (206-300-5644 or Lisa.Danielski@hdrinc.com) for additional logistical information, or contact Stephen Nyman (stephen.nyman@hdrinc.com).
